Welcome to WCA's Kindergarten and Junior Kindergarten

The WCA Kindergarten and JK programs strive to prepare young people to face the future grounded in Biblical principals, strong in academics, and with key character traits of integrity and responsibility. Our priorities include:

  • Laying the foundation for academic success in elementary school and beyond
  • Growing students in a faith that will encourage them to serve God and others
  • Integrating Bible lessons into core subjects on a daily basis
  • Teaching students to be valuable members of a classroom
  • Offering time for free play and exploration
  • Partnering with parents to reinforce learning objectives at home

Christian education is a collaborative effort among the home, church, and school. Homework assignments are a reflection and continuation of what students are learning in the classroom. Each week, students are assigned a list of red words and green words to practice at home with their families.

  • Red Words are irregular words that do not follow a particular pattern. Red Words can also be high-frequency words that students must learn before the specific concept has been taught.
  • Green Words can be decoded according to learned letter-sound correspondence and phonics rules. Green words are phonetically regular.

In order to ensure that students have ample opportunity to apply their Green and Red Word learning to both reading and spelling throughout the week, we will have a weekly word work check on Friday.

Our JK teachers come with years of experience in both Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education, blending their knowledge to create a dynamic classroom environment. Weekly communication to parents from the teacher helps provide an understanding of learning objectives that can be reinforced at home. Teachers also provide opportunities for parents to be involved in the classroom throughout the year.
