PE Teacher & Permanent Substitute

PE Teacher & Permanent Substitute

Weddington Christian Academy is seeking a dependable, energetic, and student-centered Full-Time Elementary PE Teacher & Permanent Substitute to join our faculty. 

This unique full-time position combines two important roles within the Academy:
Monday–Wednesday: Permanent Substitute
Thursday–Friday: JK–5 Physical Education Teacher

The PE portion of the position includes approximately 10 PE classes per week for students in JK–5 and utilizes the SPARK PE curriculum. We are looking for an individual who is energetic and relational while also possessing strong classroom management skills, consistency, flexibility, and a genuine love for children.

Permanent Substitute: Monday–Wednesday
On Monday through Wednesday, the individual will serve as WCA's Permanent Substitute, providing consistent classroom coverage throughout the Academy.

Responsibilities may include:
-Cover classrooms for absent teachers.
-Follow teacher lesson plans and maintain established classroom routines.
-Provide coverage across multiple grade levels and subject areas.
-Maintain appropriate classroom management and student expectations.
-Assist with recess, lunch, arrival, dismissal, and other supervision responsibilities as assigned.
-Support school events and special programming.
-Step into different classroom environments while maintaining a positive and professional presence.
-Provide reliable coverage wherever the Academy has a need.

Physical Education Teacher: Thursday & Friday
The PE Teacher will teach approximately 10 classes per week to JK–5 students using the SPARK PE curriculum. 

Responsibilities may include:
-Plan and teach engaging, developmentally appropriate PE lessons.
-Establish clear routines and expectations for students.
-Maintain a safe, structured, and positive PE environment.
-Develop students' fundamental movement skills, coordination, fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
-Manage equipment, transitions, and student movement effectively.
-Adapt activities to meet varying student abilities and needs.
-Encourage participation and help students develop confidence in physical activity.
-Maintain strong classroom management in both indoor and outdoor settings.
-Communicate with classroom teachers and administration regarding student needs or concerns.
-Support Field Day, school-wide activities, and other PE-related events.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be someone who can confidently move between the roles of teacher, substitute, and school community member.

-Experience working with elementary-aged students.

-A commitment to Christian education and the mission of Weddington Christian Academy.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Education, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related field preferred.
Previous experience teaching Physical Education or working with elementary-aged students preferred.
Experience with classroom or group management strongly preferred.
Familiarity with the SPARK PE curriculum is a plus.
Experience in a Christian school environment is a plus

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
