OUTREACH AND LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

OUTREACH:

Here at WCA, in addition to academics we want our students to learn to share their time, talents and blessings with others.  During the school year our staff carefully chooses two outreach projects to participate in.  Projects for the 2007-08 school year included a food drive for Operation Reach Out of Monroe in November 2007 and during the second semester our students will write letters to soldiers stationed in Iraq.  Projects completed during the 2006-07 school year included sponsoring the Smith family, who are missionaries serving for two years in Lima, Peru.  WCA students, parents and staff  collected and shipped goods to Peru and kept in touch with them through letters and computer e-mails. Click here to read the February 2008 newsletter from the Smith Family. At Christmas, we donated canned goods, furniture and toys to needy families through a local Christian outreach.  Past projects during 2004 and 2005 included collection of goods for a Marine unit stationed in Iraq; donations of food, clothing and gifts for needy families through With Love From Jesus Ministries of Indian Trail, and hurricane relief donations to Samaritan’s Purse.

LEADERSHIP:

During spring semester 2008, our upper elementary students will be reading buddies to our early childhood students.  They will visit classrooms and conduct a story reading session once or twice per month.  In spring 2007, a teddy bear collection was held for the Providence Fire Department and was a leadership project for our 4th and 5th grade students.  Providence Fire Department gives teddy bears to children who are fire victims or involved in motor vehicle accidents to help calm them in times of tragedy.   Many fire departments are always in need of donations.  Other projects included peer tutoring, solo recitation and singing for school-wide performances.  Our fourth grade girls participate in a service club called “God’s Girls”.
